Coimbatore Corporation:

In the year of 1866, Coimbatore was constituted as Municipality. Later in the

year of 1981, Coimbatore was upgraded to Corporation by Tamil Nadu

Government.

Coimbatore Corporation has the population of 11 lakhs (As per 2001

Census). The area of the Coimbatore Corporation is 105.50 Sq.Km.

Coimbatore Corporation gives services of Water Supply, Sewerage, Roads,

Drains, Street lights, Public Conveniences, Issues of Birth and Death Certificate

and Waste Management.

Administration of Coimbatore Corporation:

The Chief Executive of Coimbatore Corporation is Commissioner of the Corporation.
Commissioner is assisted by Deputy Commissioner and 3 Assistant Commissioners.
Coimbatore Corporation has been divided into four zones named as East Zone, West Zone, North Zone and South Zone for administrative purpose. Each zone is headed by Assistant Commissioner.
Administration department is responsible for appointments, transfers, employee welfare schemes, etc.

Plans are being made for the extension of Coimbatore Corporation to a larger area of land by occupying other nearby areas of Coimbatore. Fixing the rate for the levy of Profession Tax, Property Tax, lease items and Control the financial commitments are some the main function of this committee.

Works Committee in Coimbatore Corporation:

Reviewing the works related to Road, Drains, Street lights, Vehicles purchasing and Contract Sanction are some the functionalities of this Committee.

Town Planning Committee in Coimbatore Corporation:

Two Executive Engineers are in this department. E.E (west) for West and South zones of Coimbatore Corporation, E.E (east) for East and North zones.

Revenue Department is headed by Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) and who will be assisted by Assistant Revenue Officers and Bill Collectors.
